  1. Pre-Heat the oven to 180 decrees Celsius.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a pot or deep pan and fry the onion till translucent and and add in the garlic and mince.
  3. Brown the mince and ensure that the mince breaks apart to a crumbly consistency.
  4. Add all the spices.
  5. Add the grated carrot, chutney and lemon juice.
  6. Add in the raisins into the meat mixture. (Optional)
  7. Mix in the milk soaked white bread and ensure that is breaks apart and mixes into the mixture.
  8. In a separate dish, lightly whisk together the milk and eggs.
  9. Dish the cooked meat mixture into a medium sized oven dish and level it out.
  10. Pour the milk and egg mixture over the meat mixture and push the bay leaves in at equal distances apart.
  11. Bake for about 40 minutes. After about 40 minutes, the egg custard should be firm and set and a golden brown colour.
  12. Serve the bobotie with yellow rice, sliced banana and chutney.
