In yet another entertainment first in South Africa, Gauteng’s award-winning gaming and entertainment complex recently hosted the first ever National Basketball Association (NBA) fan park in South Africa.
This was the first time that the NBA had ever played a basketball game in Africa, which took place on August 01 at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg.
The game featured a Team Africa vs. Team World format, and was played in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Africa, SOS Children’s Villages Association of South Africa as well as the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Team Africa comprised of players from Africa and second generation African players, whereas Team World comprised of players from the rest of the world. The game aired live in Africa on SuperSport, culminating in Team World defeating Team Africa by 101-97.
