Now days it is the easiest to buy a bread. Most supermarkets in South Africa sell a large variety of bread. But there is something satisfying about making your own bread every now and then.
Here is a basic white bread recipe that is quick and easy to make… Enjoy!
- 3 cups of all purpose flour
- 3 tsp active dry yeast
- 3 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1 tbsp margarine, oil or butter
- 1 large egg
Start by combining all the dry ingredients in a suitable mixing bowl. Then add the rest of the ingredients starting with the warm water. If the mixture seems too wet, then compensate by adding a touch of flour. Once you’re finished mixing, start kneading it with a bit of flour and form it into a ball.
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
Once done place the ball of dough on a cutting board and let it rest for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, you can roll the dough with your hands into a tube form that is no longer than your bread pan.
Place the bread in a lightly greased bread pan and bake on the middle rack of your oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 30 minuets or until golden brown in colour.
Serve the bread with butter and jam or as a side dish with soups… Of course you are not limited to how your serve your bread! 🙂
