So Gautrain was back in the lime light yesterday. But this not it was in a negative light! When I heard the news of the illegal strike of the Gautrain Bus drivers, I was very disappointed. The drivers had a dispute over salaries.  Already!? These drives have recently been employed by Gautrain… How can their be a pay dispute already?

The dispute put aside, I wonder about the passengers that rely on the bus service to get to work and back to the station every day.  I use the train now and then as well as the bus to get to work in Rivnoia from Kempton Park. Now what would have happened if I took the train to Sandton only to discover that there was no way to get to Rivonia.  Sure there are other public transport methods.  But I don’t know where they are and how to use them.

As a service that currently is not used much, this strike is not going to help motivate people into using it.

Does Gautrain have a back up in place? Will a plan be put in place should this happen again?
