Gauteng warned of more quakes
Sep 2nd
From News24 and Beeld
Johannesburg – Residents of the Witwatersrand may in future experience more and bigger earthquakes due to water rising underground in mined-out basins.
It is unclear what will happen in reality, but the possibility exists that earthquakes will occur more regularly in Johannesburg and that some of them could register up to 5 on the Richter scale, said Olaf Goldbach, a geophysicist at the CSIR… read more
Gautrain operation hours
Sep 2nd
I saw a great article this morning about the Gautrain looking at extending its operation hours. If you stay on the East Rand, you can now have a night out in the north and you don’t need to be back at the train station for the last train at 20:30. “We will extend the hours – there is massive demand for it. We are talking to Bombela to start earlier, and to then run to 22:00.” This is also good for people who take later flights and for the people who take the train to work, who work later than others. I think this is a great step towards Gautrains success! well done!
Cell C WOW!
Aug 18th
Following on from my article called “Cell C What The Hell?”.
I got a call from Cell C within 30 mins of submitting the article to them. (Bonus Points). They spoke me through their changes, said sorry for past experiences, took some details of them to improve the service and in-turn made me happy. They gave me a free month subscription, an early upgrade and a smile on my face.
Well done Cell C! i just hope that this new burst of energy lasts!
If you have any issues, i strongly suggest that you log your concerns to www.telltrevor.co.za
Gautrain Bus Strike
Aug 18th
So Gautrain was back in the lime light yesterday. But this not it was in a negative light! When I heard the news of the illegal strike of the Gautrain Bus drivers, I was very disappointed. The drivers had a dispute over salaries. Already!? These drives have recently been employed by Gautrain… How can their be a pay dispute already?
The dispute put aside, I wonder about the passengers that rely on the bus service to get to work and back to the station every day. I use the train now and then as well as the bus to get to work in Rivnoia from Kempton Park. Now what would have happened if I took the train to Sandton only to discover that there was no way to get to Rivonia. Sure there are other public transport methods. But I don’t know where they are and how to use them.
As a service that currently is not used much, this strike is not going to help motivate people into using it.
Does Gautrain have a back up in place? Will a plan be put in place should this happen again?
Cell C… What the Hell?
Aug 18th
I have a contract with Cell C and I am due to renew my contact on 1 September. But am I? I have been waiting for my renewal date to port to VodaCom due to very bad service at Cell C. After the re-branding of Cell C and all the new promises I am in two minds as to staying with them or moving. I ask myself if their new marketing campaign is a good thing as they have not made very good choices with it.
First of all… The fake letter from Trevor Noah to Cell C about bad service and then been appointed the Customer Experience Officer. I feel this was very childish. Why would I trust Trevor if he is employed by Cell C and on their side? Then another thing that stands out to me is the dispute with their new logo. Their new logo looks like the copy write logo, a “c” surrounded by a circle. There is a trademark issue, and today Cell C’s application to use the new logo was rejected. Surely Cell C did their home work before finalising their branding? Spending millions of rand on branding that is going to waste now? For what? Is this a reflection of what we can experience with Cell C going forward? Incompetence…
Now I ask myself… After the bad experience that I have had with Cell C in the past… Do I still want to renew my contract with them? Their new marketing plan is not a positive to me and their staff doesn’t know what they doing most of the time.
So as a little experiment, I am sending this article to www.telltrevor.co.za and will await a reply from them. I highly doubt that Trevor himself deals with the queries but… lets see what happens. Based on the response, I will decide if I renew my contact on 1 September.
I don’t always like blogging about the negative. So I will respond to my own post and if the outcome is good! I will write a great post.

Foursquare and seven social sites ago…!
Aug 17th
If Abraham Lincoln were still alive, he’d probably be making use of this great new social media platform. Foursquare is one of the “newer” social platforms that will be making waves in South Africa in the next few months. So what is Foursquare you ask? As Foursquare puts it, Foursquare will help you meet up with your friends, let you earn points and unlock badges for discovering new places, doing new things and meeting new people. That may sound like many other social platforms but Foursquare has one clear advantage: More effective selling pot… Read More…
Cell C : social media blunder or genius?!
Aug 17th
Cell C recently made tsunami sized social media waves with their Trevor Noah social media campaign. The jist of which is that Trevor Noah, the South African comedian, wrote to his Twitter fans that Cell C was the worst network ever and that they needed to change their attitude or lose him as a client forever! Cell C CEO (the real CEO, Lars Reichelt) then placed a HUGE full page advert in the Sunday Times written directly to Trevor Noah asking for an open conversation as to how they can solve his problem.

It is possible to find a career that you love… I did
Jul 19th
I never knew what I wanted to do “when I grew up”. At the age of 26 I still did not know what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was trapped in a job that I hated, I was up to my eyeballs in debt and I was depressed and really unhappy with life. I applied for other jobs for years and never got a response or success. I thought that there was no way out and all I was going to do for the rest of my life was to do I job I hate and pay debt at the end of the month.
After 7 years of doing the job that I hated I decided that it had to stop. Life had to be better than what I was getting. I looked at my life and looked at what I enjoy doing and what made me happy. From school days I had an interest in computers. I played around with the hardware aspect for a long time and then started making websites just for fun. I looked at this interest and decided that, that’s what I want to do. But now at 27 how was I going to start a brand new career?
I told myself “I have got nothing to loose.” I applied for a study loan through the company I was working for and completed a one year course that taught me the basics in web design and web development. I learned so much in that year and became more motivated to make a career out of this exciting path that I had discovered.
A few weeks later a friend of mine informed me of a position that was open for an intern web developer. Right there and then I sent my CV off to them and was surprised to receive an interview request the very next day. After the interview I was told by the interviewers that they can see I have a passion to learn more and grow and that they were prepared to give me a chance.
I did it… I found a new job, a job in something that I wanted to do. My bad mood and depression was lifted right there and then. I was set free as such. I never thought it would feel so good to resign. I finished up with my old job on Christmas Eve 2009 then after a short holiday I started my new job on 3 January 2010.
I have not regretted one moment! I have paid off my debt, I have learned and still learning a great load, I have met great people and I am happy. It has made such a difference in my life to do what I love and I made what I thought was the impossible, possible. It can be done. If you have a passion, then pursue it! Make yourself happy… No one is going to do it for you.
2010 Soccer World Cup, The End
Jul 11th
I must admit that I am sad today. The 2010 World Cup is at an end already…. The six year build up was a great experience! And this experience is possibly once in a lifetime. Just a few days before the opening, a good friend and myself took the Gautrain to Sandton and experienced an electrifying atmosphere at the Nelson Mandela Square. From that point it was a great load of fun. People including myself who never watch soccer was watching. We had bets at work, arguments as to who will win and just an overall good spirit and fun.
It is sad that this is coming to an end! What are we going to do? What did we talk about before the World Cup started? What will the next big thing be that we will all talk about? I just hope that the good vibe and spirit and vibe will remain after climax of this great World Cup that South Africa has put on. Please add you comments to this post… What do you feel? How was the World Cup for you?
